New Way is proud to be different...
We only have some instructors from our team who we feel work well with children and have the patience to conduct these activities. They have bucket loads of experience teaching children both in scuba diving & other educational avenues. If your kids are 8 years old or older then they can take part in the PADI Bubble Maker course. They will be limited to a maximum depth of 2 meters, but there is still plenty to see. Once they are 10 years old they can take our full PADI Open Water Course but will be limited to a depth of 12m until they turn 12 years old. We always insist that one of you comes along for the ride, as it’s important that you are with your children at all times in the water both now and in their future. This activity also requires specialised juniour scuba diving equipment, so we limit training to 2 children per day maximum.
10.00a.m – 11.45a.m
You’ll need to complete some paperwork and a medical form for your kids, before they can get sized up for your diving. Afterwards your instructor will take them through some very basic theory about what to do and what not to do under the water.
There will be a quick quiz at the end (which is very easy) and then you’ll be ready to head out on our boat. Make sure you have a big breakfast, as although we provide plenty of cookies, fruits and refreshments, diving burns lots of calories!
11.45a.m – 5.30p.m
It’s time to head out diving! We’ll take you and your kids to the best shallow & calm dive site for the conditions that day. They’ll be helped into their gear by their instructor. They’ll get in the water and head for the beach. They have to show they can do 4 simple skills in water deep enough to stand up in. After that they’ll be getting the hang of breathing and controlling their buoyancy for the rest of the dive. There’ll be lots to see by they might not notice so much as they’ll be practicing the art of diving with their instructor! They will be limited to 4m depth.
After a small break we’ll usually change dive sites for their second dive. They’ll have more control over their diving and they will start to notice so much more diversity in the marine life around them as they start to fall in love with the feeling of floating weightlessly.
If they loved the day, remember they can always have another go and we’ll only charge them as a fun diver.
Teaching kids can be incredibly rewarding, however it is important to assess a young child’s aptitude to learning and how confident they are about new activities. If your kids are screaming to go diving then it’s a sure bet that they will love the activities we have planned for them. However, if your kids are nervous & you are the one that wants them to give diving a go, we’ll let you know if they are ready to take the big step into exploring the under water world. It is critically important that their first experience is a positive one & that it gives them the knowledge and confidence to want to do more. Otherwise it can end up being an event which puts them off wanting to dive for ever more. We’re not here to do that. We’re here to make the best professional & psychological assessment about them. If we feel they aren’t ready yet then our instructor will still take them out snorkeling for 800 baht a session & will teach them everything they need to do to become great mini ‘free divers’ instead!
