PADI OPEN WATER COURSE
Koh Tao is a great place to get your PADI open water certification...
If you want to learn to scuba dive then the PADI open water course is the first level of certification New Way Diving offers. This course will give you the knowledge and skills to dive safely to 18 meters. The PADI open water course consists of three primary parts to the course. The classroom sessions, where you will learn all you need to know about scuba diving. Theres the confined water sessions, where your instructor will teach you some basic safety and comfort skills you will need to know as a diver, in shallow water. Then there’s the four open water training dives, here you’ll repeat some of the skills you learned in confined water as well as getting to see some amazing marine life.
4p.m – 7p.m
We’ll get you checked in and sized up. You’ll head to one of our classrooms with your instructor to get the low down on the course. There will be a video to watch and complete some knowledge reviews as part of your self study prior to the course beginning the following day.
8.00a.m – 10.30a.m
You’ll probably be feeling a little bit lost after watching the video and answering the knowledge reviews. This is where our instructors make all of the difference. They’ll talk you through the knowledge reviews so that you know why PADI are asking the questions. There’ll be a couple of quizzes to help boost your confidence.
10.30a.m – 11.30a.m
Diving uses a lot of calories! Therefore we advise you eat well ready for your afternoons activities. We do provide cookies, fruits and refreshments on the boat but please make sure you are well fed before venturing off to the sea.
11.30a.m – 5.30p.m
It’s time to go diving. You’ll go with your instructor to a shallow calm dive site to practice some basic skills and then go on your first ever dive! Afterwards we’ll all usually sit down for a beer and chat about your first time under the water.
8.00a.m – 5.30p.m
It’s the same structure as Day 2 but your knowledge and diving will be more in depth to prepare you for your final day of the course. You’ll be limited to 12m, but after the end of your diving sessions you should be feeling happy and comfortable about venture out further the following morning.
There will be a final exam to complete, but don’t worry, it’s super easy as your instructor will have thoroughly prepared you for it.
5.30a.m – 10.30a.m
Off we go to Chumpon Pinnacle or South West Pinnacle (weather permitting) for your last 2 dives of the course. It’s a 35 minute journey. We’ll be the first boat there remember so we’ll get the dive site all to ourselves for the first dive. Chumpon Pinnacle and South West Pinnacle are the top 2 dives sites locally to the island! The trip includes snacks, fruits and refreshments to keep your energy levels up for the morning!
If you are lucky enough to finish on a Tuesday or a Friday then you’ll be able to finish your course at Sail Rock for just 1000 baht extra. (All other divers pay 2400 baht to go on this dive). We leave a little bit earlier and get back a little bit later as this site is 2 hours away.
Please note that we can only go to the best dive sites if weather conditions and visibility are good. It is not about numbers of students with us. If you are the only one and the weather is good, then you get the boat to yourself! If conditions mean we can’t go there then we go to the best dive site for the conditions. Remember sea conditions can affect where we dive, even though we are lucky on Koh Tao that we only get a few bad days of weather a year.
